Are You Fooling Your Hypothalamus?

Many of the problems associated with an unhealthy digestive system stem from eating too quickly. Not only do you not give yourself a chance to process and digest due to lack of chewing but when you eat too fast, you tend to overeat as well.
What is the hypothalamus?
The hypothalamus tells you when you’re full but it takes time to work. It takes about twenty minutes, in fact. Those who eat fast food often overeat and don’t even realise that they’re full and that their body has had enough.
Taking time to eat will not only result in your body having fewer problems with colon transit time, upset stomach, acid indigestion and other gi tract problems but by slowing down you give your body a chance to tell you when it has had enough which can result in weight loss over time as well due to more realistic and tolerable portions.
Dangers of High Fructose Corn Syrup: Overeating
It’s worthwhile to note as well that certain foods, namely high fructose corn syrup can actually block your hypothalamus from telling you that you’re full so many nutrition and diet experts recommend refraining from eating foods that have this ingredient within the first five ingredients on the list on the product label. Remember that the highest quantities go first on the ingredient list so when corn syrup is near the top, chances of healthy ingredients being in high quantities is much lower.
